Because printing needs no formwork, a complex curved wall costs no more to produce than a flat one. This inverts the economics of architectural concrete: intricacy is no longer a premium. Designers can explore organic shapes, varying sections, textures and ornament that traditional casting could never justify.
The range is wide. At the monumental end, we produced a structure for artist Eva Jospin at Versailles, a column for the Futurium Museum in Berlin, and a structural node exhibited at the Centre Pompidou. At human scale, printed concrete becomes furniture, planters, benches and bespoke pieces.
3D printing is particularly powerful for bespoke facade systems and non-standard building elements, where every piece can differ without the cost of a new mould each time. Our Facets facade prototypes and facade panels show how printed concrete brings custom architecture within reach.
Designers use printed concrete as a creative medium in its own right, from a table for Roche Bobois to woven concrete furniture in Tokyo. The material's texture and the layer aesthetic become part of the design language.
