Urban pots
The Istres project cleverly transforms stark steel safety bollards into elegant street furniture. By designing 3D-printed corrugated concrete pots that slip directly over standard bollards, the city utilizes the underlying steel for structural impact resistance while adding vibrant greenery to public spaces.
Using XtreeE’s 3D concrete printing technology is ideal because it bypasses the limits of traditional manufacturing. Instead of relying on expensive, complex molds, XtreeE's robotic arms print the fluid, corrugated geometries directly from a digital file, achieving bespoke architectural design without the added cost.
Furthermore, this additive approach drastically reduces environmental impact. Material is deposited only where structurally necessary, which minimizes concrete consumption, eliminates manufacturing waste, and creates lighter pieces that are significantly easier to transport and install.
