About the project

Led by Cornell University, this research explores the potential of large-scale underwater concrete 3D printing for maritime construction and repair of critical infrastructures.

The team developed printable concrete mixes that resist washout underwater while remaining pumpable and structurally reliable. The project also investigates the use of seafloor sediments as a local construction material and integrates sensing systems to improve printing accuracy in low-visibility conditions.

Potential applications include offshore infrastructure, artificial reefs, coastal protection systems, and ecological restoration projects.

XtreeE technology is key to adapt to custom local materials, facilitate the development while ensuring a robust production.
