Leatherstone

“We've done it! 3D printing leather, without petrochemicals and with low carbon impact.”
About the project

We've done it! At XtreeE, we have successfully pushed the boundaries of additive manufacturing by 3D printing leather, completely free of petrochemicals and with a remarkably low carbon impact. This breakthrough came to life through Leatherstone©, a material and parametric design installation created by Hors Studio and Bold Design, which we were proud to see exhibited at the Cloître de la Psalette in France.

This project is incredibly exciting for us because it proves our technology goes far beyond concrete. Leatherstone© is a good extrudable material, making it a perfect match for our robotic deposition systems. Our technology flawlessly translated complex digital designs into these flexible, organic forms, proving that our precision systems can handle pliable, bio-sourced mediums just as effectively as structural mortar.

Ultimately, this collaboration opens the door to a whole new world of alternative, sustainable materials. By demonstrating the sheer versatility of our technology, we are paving the way for designers to explore eco-friendly, flexible mediums in large-scale 3D printing without compromising on architectural freedom.
